Dear RTD FasTracks & Northwest Rail Stakeholder,
As you know, RTD is among the many public entities across the nation facing challenges in delivering our services and projects due to the current economic conditions. The FasTracks transit expansion program continues to be impacted by slumping sales tax revenues and escalating construction materials costs.
Because it took a regional effort to create FasTracks, we believe it will take a regional solution to keep FasTracks moving forward. We want to hear what our stakeholders have to say about the viable options for delivering FasTracks.
RTD will be holding public meetings in each of the 15 RTD Districts from September 25 to October 23. The meetings will present the current status of FasTracks and the current viable options for moving FasTracks forward. These meetings are opportunities for you to give us their feedback on these options.
Please see the list for the FasTracks Public Meetings included below. Information is also available on the FasTracks Web site at www.RTD-FasTracks.com and will be updated as plans evolve. Please feel free to share this e-mail and the list of public meeting dates and locations below with anyone you think would be interested in attending. As always, we also encourage you to submit any comments you have on the Northwest Rail Web site .
Thank you for your continued interest and support in FasTracks. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you to provide more transit to our regional community at a time when the need for transit investment is at its greatest.
The RTD FasTracks Northwest Rail Team

Walk & Bike MONTH in Boulder adds new Event!
As part of Boulder's Walk & Bike Month, June 13 has been declared Park(ing) Space Day. To celebrate, take over a parking space from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or all day). What can you do with 8 by 17 feet of concrete? Run a bike repair station. Offer an exercise class. Better yet, chair massages! If you tend toward the fanciful, move in a ping-pong table, croquet game (you'll need some sod), or a hopscotch board. Or create an oasis with Astro turf, patio furniture, potted palms and free lemonade. What's the point? Park(ing) Spaces raise awareness of the trade-off between space for cars vs. space for humans. If we reduce our dependence on parking spaces, how could we permanently reclaim them? More housing or outdoor dining, more trees and more water - paved parking lots generate excess water that goes directly to storm drains instead of remaining in the soil. If you want to create a Park(ing) Space, support or utilize one - contact Walk & Bike Month Coordinator Sue Prant at 303-564-968 or e- mail.

In addition to the almost 30 breakfast stations all over town on Bike to Work Day (June 25th) and the Bike to Work Day Commuter Challenge, there is a number of other events planned all month. These events include organized walks, bike rides, neighborhood events, mountain bike events, a bike film festival, concerts, bike tune-ups and maintenance classes, and bike rodeos for kids. The very popular Walk & Bike Month BINGO game, where people will walk or bike to area merchants, get their BINGO card stamped and enter to win prizes will also be featured.

The city Boulder will return to its roots this summer by offering free transit service to passengers traveling between downtown Boulder and Chautauqua Park. The "HOP 2 Chautauqua" will use HOP buses as a part of a three month pilot service. The service will run every 15 minutes, seven-days-a-week, from noon to 10 p.m. beginning May 10 through August 24, with extended hours and service to the Williams Village east parking lot on Chautauqua concert nights. The route circles downtown and runs along 9th Street and Baseline Road, and will include major stops at Pearl and 13th streets and the 27th Way park-n-Ride.
"This service restores the tradition of offering our community and visitors easy access to Chautauqua events, concerts and recreation," explains Cris Jones, GO Boulder transportation planner. The free 'HOP 2 Chautauqua' allows people to enjoy their experience without the hassle of parking and congestion. Our goal is to provide service to 500 riders each day, bringing more people and fewer cars to the park." "HOP 2 Chautauqua" funding is provided through a partnership of GO Boulder/city of Boulder, Colorado Chautauqua Association, Colorado Music Festival, Downtown and University Hill Management Division/Parking Services, Downtown Boulder, Inc., and the Boulder Convention and Visitor's Bureau. For more information or for residents or organizations interested in sponsoring or promoting this service, contact Cris Jones at 303-441-3217 or e-mail or visit www.GOBoulder.net. Dogs are welcome on bus route to Chautauqua too!

New this year is a great event called the "Parking Parks Day" held on Friday, June 13th. We are asking businesses in EAST BOULDER to transform just one space in your parking lot to a "park" or a place for people to eat lunch, play, relax, or do anything other than store a car. Benefits of participating: -We will help you brainstorm park ideas and give you a sign to mark your park. -Your business "park" will be featured on a playing card, and just like BINGO, people will ride around to the various "Parking Parks", have their card stamped, and then turn in their card for a prize. -Your business will be featured on the Walk & Bike Month Web site for this program and in at least one of our Walk & Bike Month ads in the Daily Camera. We expect this to get a lot of local and even national press coverage. To get an idea of what this looks like, you can watch this great, short film that shows how it was done in NYC: http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/parking-day-2007- nyc/ Please let us know if you are interested in participating. The more "Parking Parks" we have, the better and the more attention Boulder will get! Please contact Sue Prant at 303-564-9681 or e-mail

![]() Helping coworkers curb their car..by Ellen Orleans Whether you are a seasoned ETC or a recently drafted one, try these suggestions for helping your coworkers curb their cars. Keep Transit Info on Hand Find out what buses serve your workplace, then set aside an area on your front desk or break room for bus maps and RTD schedules. A simple Lucite holder keeps materials orderly and easy to use. In addition to comprehensive maps, GO Boulder produces specific maps for our most popular routes. Tell us what you need and we will get that to you. Remind coworkers that busing even once a month puts a dent into traffic congestion. Make Ride Sharing Visible Boulder employees who live outside of town are great candidates for carpooling. Whether you use a computer program or a basic sign up sheet to connect potential poolers, ride sharing not only saves money and frees up parking, but can boost employee efficiency and morale. How? When employees ride together, they learn from each other and gain a better understanding of the company's bigger picture. By boosting empathy, carpooling encourages cooperation among such diverse callings as accounting, programming, service, and (gasp) marketing. Encourage your fellow employees to try carpooling once a week. Small steps add up. Tomorrow, Don't Drive to Work Alone At All Poor Telework, the most misunderstood of all trip reduction programs. Just like busing and carpooling, telework does not have to be full time. In fact, the beauty of telework is its flexibility. If your coworkers use email, write evaluations, or enter data, they are prime candidates for parttime telework. Can your company implement either of these telework programs? Rush Hour Telework What would you rather do during morning rush hour? Sit in traffic contributing to CO2 emissions, or read work email at your kitchen table while savoring a second cup of coffee? Rush hour telework saves time and reduces tension by circumventing the hours when driving is least efficient. Snow Day Telework Big storm in the forecast? Smart companies play it safe by sending employees home early. Fewer work hours are lost when employees can work at home, reviewing professional literature, drafting budgets, or clearing out that overstuffed email inboxes. Encourage your HR and IT departments to make it easy for employees to log on from home. It's a benefit that costs little and helps attract a stronger workforce.
